Everyone is talking about what’s SUP?! We are extremely excited about bringing SUP (Stand Up Paddleboarding) to the Central Florida area. Fun for all ages, just add: a board, a paddle, water of almost any depth, and a quick safety lesson. Before you know it, you’ll be walking on water, gliding effortlessly like you’ve been doing this all your life. These stable and buoyant boards make learning SUP easy, and living near countless public lakes, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Gulf Coast makes it very accessible. What’s even better is, the experience is so enjoyable, you hardly realize that you are strengthening your core and developing balance. A complete mind/body work-out, many describe it as yoga on water. It can be as intense or as relaxing as you want it to be. And it’s so easy, the whole family can enjoy exploring new landscapes while exercising together. SUP brings a whole new dimension to family fun day! The recent growth of SUP has been highlighted in Trans World Surf Magazine’s April 2009 issue as having phenomenal cross-country reach, “Because of the quick learning curve and the fact that you don’t actually need a wave, folks in landlocked areas have taken to SUP, cruising sounds, lakes, rivers, bays and streams.” Paddleboard Orlando offers stand-up paddleboard rentals, lessons, fitness, one of a kind yoga classes and more. Bringing the community together is a key part of our mission, as well as keeping our community lakes and parks clean and safe for all to enjoy. |

Team PBO 'rocked' the Pilgrams Paddle on November 28th in St. Pete. The Inagrual Pilgram Paddle held by Stand Up Fitness was a huge success despite slightly lower temperatures than usual. With weather in the 50's and semi-choppy conditions, the women's Team PBO (Kim DePasquale and Cheryl Baker) took home 3rd place and the MVP trophy!!! This was a tough race with men and women traveling from as far a way as Colorado.
Next year Team PBO promises to win this one!
We also expect to have a larger group of PBO paddlers representing PBO next year. So, get involved now and start enjoying the benefits of the SUP Life!!!

"It's generally agreed that the sport has roots in ancient Polynesia, but it didn't really enter the modern mindset until the mid 20th-century, when Waikiki's "beach boys" decided to stand up on their longboards and paddle around with outrigger canoe oars to get a better look at their surfing students, spot far-off waves, take photos for tourists or simply to have something to do on flat days. It wasn't until the late 1990s that the modern explosion began, thanks to big wave surfer and exercise guru Laird Hamilton picking up SUP and publicizing it as simultaneously adventurous, peaceful and a solid form of core conditioning for surfers and non-surfers alike."
Team YOLO rider Justin Cook took 1st place in the 3-mile Jupiter Paddleboard invasion on Sunday, Nov. 8. He was riding the YOLO 12'6" race board. Extreme athlete Darien Boyle www.darienboyle.com took 2nd on the YOLO race board for the women. Kyle Lage and Ross Carter of Team YOLO, and local boy Matt MacDonald were in the top 5. High winds made for a tough race, but the competitors were amazingly strong against the brutal headwinds. Congrats to John and Bari Denney of www.jupiterpaddleboarding.com on a great race! They even held a paddleboard head-stand contest! See pics below! YOLO was a proud sponsor of this awesome event!
